Leapmotor, a Chinese electric vehicle (EV) manufacturer supported by Stellantis, is making significant advancements in the global automotive industry with its mid-size SUV, the C10. As the company prepares to launch an updated version on May 15, the C10 is strategically positioned to compete with established entities such as the Tesla Model Y and the Kia EV5.
Performance and Powertrain
The forthcoming 2026 model year C10 is set to feature a more powerful electric motor, generating 220 kW (295 hp), which represents a considerable increase from the previous output of 170 kW (228 hp). This enhancement enables the vehicle to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in a mere 5.9 seconds, an improvement over the earlier benchmark of 7.3 seconds.
Moreover, Leapmotor offers a Range-Extended Electric Vehicle (REEV) variant of the C10 that integrates a 1.5-liter petrol engine with an electric motor. This configuration provides a comprehensive range exceeding 950 km and CO₂ emissions as low as 10 g/km, effectively addressing the concerns related to range anxiety among potential EV consumers.
The C10 is equipped with a comprehensive array of contemporary features, including a 14.6-inch 2K central infotainment display, a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster, and a 12-speaker 840W audio system. Comfort provisions include dual-zone automatic air conditioning, LED automatic headlights, and electronically adjustable front seats.
Safety is a paramount consideration, with the C10 incorporating an advanced driver-assistance system (ADAS) that encompasses 17 functions, such as advanced emergency braking, lane keeping assistance, blind spot detection, and adaptive cruise control.
Leapmotor continues to extend its global presence, with the C10 already available in several European markets. In the United Kingdom, the vehicle is priced at £36,500 and is marketed through Stellantis dealerships. The company aims to be recognized as the “best-value EV brand” by 2027, with plans to introduce a diverse lineup of six models, including the cost-effective T03 and the forthcoming B10 midsize SUV.
The C10 has demonstrated strong sales performance, with 12,255 units delivered in March, accounting for 33% of Leapmotor’s monthly deliveries. During the five-day Labor Day holiday, the company secured more than 18,000 orders for the C10, indicating robust market demand.
As Leapmotor progresses with its innovative strategies and global expansion efforts, the C10 exemplifies the company’s commitment to offering affordable, technologically advanced electric vehicles to a worldwide audience.
